Associate/Assistant Director, Genetic Counseling Program

The Associate/Assistant Director (AD) will work closely with the Program Director (PD) to implement and oversee the 21?month ACGC?accredited Master of Science in Genetic Counseling program at Charles R. Drew University. The GCP is housed within the College of Science and Health and aims to increase genetic counselor capacity and diversity, emphasizing social determinants of health and addressing health disparities.

Reporting to the PD, the AD will assist with program administrationincluding accreditation standards, curriculum design, student admissions, operating policies, and evaluation of student outcomeswhile also teaching and mentoring students across multiple delivery modes and serving as a key partner in clinical training site agreements.

This part?time position is 0.20.5 FTE and may be eligible for an academic appointment at a level commensurate with credentials and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with the PD to monitor and maintain program compliance with accreditation standards, program policies, and requirements.
  • Collaborate with the PD in communications with ACGC regarding significant staffing, administrative, financial, and fieldwork training changes.
  • Assist with oversight of GC program policies and procedures.
  • Assist with proposal development for the acquisition of extramural funding.
  • Develop courses that align with accreditation standards and best practices; serve as lead instructor for GCP courses in own areas of expertise.
  • Manage the annual admissions process.
  • Ensure faculty and course materials are prepared and available.
  • Support development and assessment of clinical training experiences in alignment with ACGC accreditation, including recruitment, oversight, scheduling, and documentation of clinical rotation sites.
  • Serve on the admissions committee and support implementation of the programs admissions and recruitment activities.
  • Assist with design and implementation of program self?study activities, including alignment and assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Support establishment of metrics and monitor student success outcomes such as academic progress, retention, graduation, and licensure rates.
  • Provide academic advising and assist with monitoring, evaluating, and remediating student performance.
  • Develop and oversee program evaluation processes in accordance with ACGC standards and implement improvement plans.
  • Assist in handling student, faculty, and staff concerns; refer individuals to appropriate resources.
  • Manage confidential student files in accordance with FERPA regulations.
  • Respect HIPAA regulations when handling patient files and records for fieldwork placement management.
  • Participate in shared governance and serve on standing and ad?hoc committees.
  • Assist with program advisory board meeting administration.
  • Maintain professional licensure by completing required CEUs and clinical practice requirements.
  • Engage in scholarly and community service activities and participate in professional association conferences related to genetic counseling education and practice.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks assigned by the PD, college, or university.

EDUCATION
  • MS in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC?accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated evidence of CEU credits required for recertification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or related licensing board.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Board certification in Genetic Counseling from the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
  • Genetic counseling state licensure in current clinical practice state(s), if applicable.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 35 years of experience as a genetic counselor.
  • General knowledge and experience with leadership roles.
  • Administrative, teaching, and/or research experience.
SKILLS
  • Strong organizational and problem?solving skills.
  • Computer literacy required; online teaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi?task and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel to/from affiliate clinical sites.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Compensation
  • Salary Range: $24,040 $60,500. Part?time: Exempt.
